Today, I got an email below. It basically says there were errors in calculating taxes in purchases, so the store is issuing US$1 coupons for all the customers.
Dear Valued Customer:
It has come to our attention that GameStop Games mistakenly over-collected sales tax on some purchases by our California customers at EBGames.com. The error concerns California's rules on the taxation of shipping costs. Many California customers did not pay too much tax, and for those who did, the overpayment was usually in the range of $0.01 to $0.50. All taxes collected by GameStop Games on shipping charges were paid to the State Board of Equalization. That is, GameStop Games did not retain any of the taxes it collected or otherwise benefit from the mistake.
To remedy any possible over-collection of taxes, GameStop Games is giving each of its potentially affected California customers a $1.00 coupon that is good towards a purchase at EBGames.com. For coupon code and redemption instructions, please see below. Alternatively, if you would rather have any overpayment of taxes that you may have made refunded to you, GameStop Games will refund any amounts that you overpaid. To obtain a refund (if an overpayment was made), it will be necessary to provide GameStop Games with proof of the amount of sales tax collected on the shipping portion of the purchase. Refund Requests should be sent to: EBGames.com Customer Service, 625 Westport Parkway, Grapevine, Texas, 76051, Attention: Shipping Tax Refund Request. GameStop Games will process the request, and if it over-collected sales tax on the purchase, it will refund any amounts it over-collected. As stated, the amount of the refund, if any, will likely be less than $0.50.

What can you do with the US$1 coupon? Well, basically nothing if you're using it by itself at the stores! To avoid being sued or being investigated by the government, they've to do this.
I do think people should have better things to do than redeeming a $1 coupon. sigh.
After a few days of work, I must say I am quite exhausted when i am home. At least I am not having OT yet, but my job is quite demanding and it is going to be more and more demanding as time goes.
Tonight I watched one TV drama and then I decided to move back to my room to relax. It's long day today and tomorrow will also be a long day with long meetings. On top of that, of course I am looking for a place to stay. It's been wonderful my friends can accomodate me these few months but I must find my own crib pretty soon. As I look at places everyday after work, I got more ideas on what kind of place I'd like to rent. I must say HK living is really quite expensive. We'll see where I will end up at.
Today, I received an email from my dad. What's the big deal you ask? Because it is the first ever email I got from my dad! I'm so glad to receive a first email from him. It is an interesting feeling to receive an email from someone you know since you are born. That's about 29 years. It's quite a while.
My vacation in Hong Kong officially comes to an end today. This is because I will start working tomorrow. So, today I decided to do some exercises. I went hiking with some secondary schoolmates. Some of them I have not seen for more than 10 years. It was good to chat up with them and 'blow water' together :) We had a dim-sum lunch @ Chi-Fu Garden. Afterwards we went to one of the schoolmates' new flat to take a look. We bought a rice-cooker to our schoolmate since he'll be getting married at the end of this year.
Then we went for an one-hour hiking from Chi-Fu to the Peak. It was funny because I was about to go to the Peak this weekend. I thought I would have no chance to go before vacation ends. And there I was! The walk was ok, but the weather was just so humid and hot. It wasn't the most pleasant walk for sure :) Unfortunately the Peak was way too foggy. So we weren't able to see anything, and of course no nice view of the Victoria Harbor :( Anyways, we took the mini-bus back to Central and took the Ferry to TST. A very nice Ferry ride. I always enjoy taking the Ferry because I can see the harbor view and enjoy the sea wind. Refreshing.
When we were taking the mini-bus down from the Peak, I overheard a bunch of girls who obviously just got off work from the Peak's McDonald's. They were talking about wages at McDonald's - HK$17 per hour! That's just ridiculously low wage. 10 years ago the wage was around HK$12. Only $5 increase over 10 years!? I hope I heard it wrong!
The pictures I took with my phone aren't that great. I think I need to play with the camera a little more...
Today while i was going home via MTR, I saw this young man sitting on one of the seats and playing gameboy. Then, an old lady came in and obviously looked really tired. She stood in front of the young man. The guy looked up at the old lady for a second, and CONTINUE TO PLAY HIS GAMEBOY.
