After work today, I went to Ikea cafe in Palo Alto for a simple dinner. Then I headed to the Stanford coffee house for Corrinne May's first bay-area live performance.
It was a very good show. Lasted approximately an hour. Half of the songs she performed are old and half are new. Lots of Singaporean students there because it is supposed to be the "Singapore Day" in Stanford.
The cafe was kind of noisy because obviously some people didn't really care about the music. Corrinne was as calm as ever singing to this mixed crowd. She joked, chat. Just like an old friend. The piano together with her crystal voice transcends the air into our ears. Familiar tunes like "Mr. Beasly", "Fly Away" were sung. There're many new songs as well with themes like birthday, frustration etc, which will be included in her 2nd album.
I was sitting at the right side of the small stage. I couldn't see Corrinne very well but I could hear the music very well. There were these two guys sitting at the same table as me. We chatted a bit and I introduced Corrinne to them and her CD. It was their first time listening to Corrinne songs and during the show they kept saying the music was awesome. They asked me if I am a friend of Corrinne. I thought about it for a sec, then replied them "yes, sort of". Corrinne is those kinds of performer who is very friendly and nice with her audiences. This is the 4th time I am in her live and I guess I am the old timer!
I went to Corrinne before the show and her immediate reaction was "you look so familiar..." These days everyone say the same thing....! I wonder why?
